SPLASHPAD UPDATE

SPLASHPAD UPDATE

PAVILION AND SPLASH PAD RENOVATION

The renovation of the pavilion, bathrooms, and splashpad went before the UDC on April 4, 2024 and was recommended for approval with conditions.

You can read all about it if you want the nitty gritty details, but the big take-away is that it was approved and now moves to the Planning Commission for final approval.

The full plan explains that they will be installing new walkways, replacing the historic brick paths that currently lead to the concrete four-square pad, but they heard our feedback and are proposing a new band of brick to wrap the perimeter of the pavilion as a nod to that history. The splashpad design is inspired by the pinwheel memorial in the park after Markiya’s death. The design includes new drinking fountains, benches, bike racks and trash/recycling receptacles. Plantings around the splashpad will be flowering redbud trees and a variety of other perennial natives plants. The proposed cost of the entire project is currently $890,500

As you can see from the images, the bathroom is maintaining it’s basic structure, but the internal rooms will be changed. In one of the western offices, a family bathroom and changing room is being installed. The men’s and women’s bathrooms are being renovated but maintaining their current locations. New water fountains will be outside the pavilion where the current one is, and it looks from this drawing like another one will be placed with in the pavilion as well.

The proposal goes to the planning commission next for approval. This meeting takes place on April 16th at 6pm. You can join via Teams or in person. Information about the meeting is found on THIS PAGE.

We want to encourage the community to please reach out the Planning Commission with comments and/or concerns. This will be the last chance the community has to ask questions and provide feedback before this project moves forward.

You can either choose to email comments head of the meeting. All written comments are due no later than April 16 at 12pm.

Community members may also elect to speak during public comment either via phone, Teams meeting or in person. Please review the document to find out more about how to submit comments or join the meeting to speak.
